Holiday in Crete at Steve & Vikis with Norman, Viv & Marge

31st August 2007 - 10th September 2007
Norma and I stayed for three days at Irakleo at a 3* Cretan hotel. It was very lacking in facilites and spohistication but at some €30 odd per night for B&B was unbelievably cheap.
So were the local buses so we headed for Knossos one day and also spent a couple of days exploring the shops in Irakleo as well as the fantastic Venetian fortress guarding the harbour. We then headed over to Agios Nikolaos to stay at Mantraki apartments as guests of Steve & Viki together with Norman, Viv and Margie. The weather was so terrific we spent most of the time doing some serious chilling out. After breakfast on the terrace of our apartment, we ate out every lunchtime and evening except for one evening when we had a gigantic BBQ. The local chicken, pork and sausages we so tasty they would put most of our home grown stuff to shame.
It's a shame that our return flight was at night because we passed directly over Athens and then Venice before crossing the Swiss Alps and flying up France to pass directly over Paris and then over London home to the North. It was very pretty at night but would have been spectacular in the day.
